Yreka Hill

March 3, 2003

My granddaughter and I checked out the Hill north, of the Yreka/Montague Road, just east of the north exit of Yreka, this monday morning.

We walked among the Fritillaria pudica - Yellow bells and the bright Viola beckwithii.

She stopped to smell the flowers. Anyone would enjoy the beauty of spring day with such wonderful colors.

Fritillaria pudica

There was quit a show of yellow bells, violets and spring golds. The south end of the hill was very plentiful.

The Lewisa rediviva looked really healthy, but not blooming yet, as was the Phlox hirsuta. Phlox hirsuta known as the "Yreka Phlox” is perennial plant found only in two locations. They are both in Siskiyou County, near Yreka, California.

More on this in Shasta Field Trip Page Phlox Hill, Yreka, Spring 2000

We followed the yellow bells beside the road and found the Grass Widows- Sisyichium douglasii

It is time right now to go see the yellow bells and Beckwithii violets.
The bitterroots, Yreka Phloxes and others will be coming soon.
