Creating A Web Page

Your internet account includes 5 megabytes of web space. Additional web space is available, call our office for details. We encourage you to create your own personal or business home page. It's as easy as creating your own typed documents in Word or ClarisWorks. It's so easy, you'll wonder why everyone isn't doing it for themselves.

You will need a HTML editor for creating your web page as well as FTP software for uploading your page to the server.

For an Html editor you can download and use Netscape Navigator Gold or Netscape Communicator. Windows and Macintosh versions available from Netscape.(click on web page links below)

For Ftp software, Ws_Ftp for Windows, and Fetch for Macintosh, are also available for download. (click on web page links below) 


WEB PAGE INSTRUCTIONS

1.)  CREATE A FOLDER

You may want to create a separate folder on your computer such as c:\webpage (Win) or a new folder called Webpage (Mac) to store your web items in.

2.)  CREATE A WEB PAGE

Next create a web page on your computer using the HTML editor of your choice. Make sure you save your web page in the folder you created previously. Also, your page should be saved with the name index.html

3.)  CONNECT TO THE SERVER

After creating your web page you are ready to connect to the server. Go into your FTP software. Type in www.sisqtel.net for the Host Name/Address. Select Automatic Detect for the host type (Ws_Ftp). Type in your account name for the UserId and then type in your password. Select OK to connect to the server. When you connect you will automatically be in your root directory on the server.

4.)  UPLOAD YOUR WEB PAGE

Most FTP programs are split into two screens. The left side of the screen is a view of the files on your computer. The right side of the screen is a view of files on the server. To copy your web page to the server you will need to locate the folder that you saved your pages in which may be in the left window.   After locating your web page (index.html) you need to upload it to your directory on the server. When you connected to the server you were automatically put into your directory on the server. By dragging and dropping, double clicking or using the arrows (depends on your program) you need to transfer your web page to the server. Once you have successfully uploaded your web page, the web page filename should be visible in the window (index.html). If you have any graphics, you can upload them at this time also. Disconnect from the server when finished.

5.)  BROWSE YOUR WEB PAGE

Once your web page has been uploaded to the server, it can be viewed. To view your web page you will need to go into a browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. In the address bar of your browser type in  http://users.sisqtel.net/accountname
 

Have fun creating your web pages. There is a lot of material available on the internet to assist you in your design. Try doing a search on backgrounds, textures, clipart, icons, bullets, buttons, banners, signs, animated images, sounds, movies, etc....
